Women in Construction Program – Graduation Good news story

Francis and Sandra successfully graduated from the Women in Construction Program and will now commence an Apprenticeship in Civil Construction as paid employment.

 

The Women in Construction program was designed to people with no previous building or construction experience, all you need to be successful is a positive approach and willingness to learn.

The Women in Construction Program offers successful candidates a qualification, hands-on experience, comprehensive training and employment on a major Victorian Infrastructure Project.

 

The program was delivered by a consortium led by Lendlease Engineering, John Holland, Bouygeues Construction and Capella Capital, currently building the $11 billion Metro Tunnel including twin nine kilometre tunnels and five new underground stations.

MetroHub, a partnership between Cross Yarra Partnership and Holmesglen Institute, along with the Department of Jobs and Small Business is offering an opportunity for women interested in undertaking a 6-week pre-employment program as a gateway into the construction industry.

This program provided:

  • a pathway qualification to a civil construction apprenticeship
  • practical experience on a major civil infrastructure project
  • guaranteed employment on successful completion of the course
  • job-ready skills
  • life skills training.

The program participants attained the RII20115 Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation.

This program also includes additional pathway level units of competency:

  • CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry (White Card)
  • RIIWHS204D Work safely at heights
  • RIIWHS205D Control traffic with a stop slow bat
  • RIIWHS302 Implement traffic management plan
  • Life skills program & ready for work kit including personal protective equipment.
